Selling Your Mississauga House

January 7, 2013

Selling Your Mississauga House as a Dog Owner

As a dog owner there are certain challenges that you may have to face when you are selling your Mississauga house. You’ll have to work with your real estate agent closely to figure out the best way to present your home. While you may be a tried and true dog lover at heart, you'll need to take into account the fact that there are a lot of people that really don't like dogs or are severely allergic to them. Quite a few of them may be potential buyers for the home that you are trying to sell!

Talk to your agent

This is the first thing you need to do. He has been selling a lot of homes for dog owners and will advise you of certain steps you may want to take. In some cases, depending on the neighborhood and area of the city, it might be best to move your dog over to a friend or relative's home while your house is on the market.

If you have any type of aggressive dog at all it should definitely be taken out of the home or caged up during viewings. It's the same for overly friendly dogs that like to jump up on people and lick them to death. This just isn't going to be workable when you have people coming in to view your home.

When you're viewing your Mississauga house issued it needs to be staged as professionally and pleasantly as possible. Whenever your house is going to be shown, whether at a private viewing or at an open house, you can always count on things going a lot smoother when the dog just isn't a part of the picture.

If you can, and a friend or relative is willing, it would be a good idea to have your dog stay somewhere else while your house is on the market. You'll be able to clean up all the dog fur and keep any animal odors down to a minimum. For those of you that simply would never part with your dog for any reason at all, you'll have to make sure that you have your vacuum nearby so that you can give your house a quick going over if you receive a call about a viewing from your agent.

There are a lot of people that love dogs and others that don't. As a dog lover you’re going to have to respect the viewpoint of others during viewings at your open houses. This is the best way to go about selling your Mississauga house as a dog owner.
