Mississauga Homes for Sale

Mississauga Homes for Sale - One of the Most Pedestrian Friendly Cities in Canada

If you've been looking for Mississauga homes for sale and are a walker by heart, you'll love to know that Mississauga scored fourth on a list of Canada’s most walkable cities. This is based on an assessment done by Walk Score that takes a look at the neighborhoods in various cities to give them a score out of 100 based on how walkable they are.

Mississauga was the fourth most walkable city in Canada with a score of 59/100 points while Vancouver came in first with a score of 78/100. Toronto came in second with a score of 71/100 with Montréal right behind with a score of 70/100. On this Walk Score, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Hamilton, Brampton and Calgary were the cities trailing behind Mississauga in the listings.

The scoring for the assessment took a look at the neighborhoods' proximity to the following:

  • Transit
  • Shopping
  • Health facilities
  • Grocery stores
  • Coffee shops
  • Entertainment
  • Errands
  • Community and arts centers
  • Sharing facilities for bikes and cars
  • Outdoor areas
  • Restaurants
  • Schools

This proximity factor was the basis of the rating given while other factors, such as how a community looks, was not taken into account at all. The idea of the assessment was to rate how easy it would be for people in the community to do their errands without having to rely on a car.

The most walkable neighborhood in Mississauga scoring 85 points out of 100 was Cooksville with Mineola placing right behind it with a score of 83/100. Erin Mills and Streetsville received a rating of 78/100, Malton 67/100, and Lisgar 60/100.

These types of assessments can only help with real estate data and many of the major real estate companies have started to list the walkability score on their property listings. It really is an important factor to consider if you're without a vehicle or don't want to use it consistently to run simple basic errands.

Interestingly enough, a survey issued by the Government of Canada showed that people are 2.4 times more likely to fulfill their daily requirements of physical exercise if they are living in a more walkable area. This is something that you should definitely keep in mind if you're looking for a new home in Mississauga. Not only is this city safe but it's walkable too!
